Vladimir Burtman received his Ph.D. in applied physics from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, in 1996. He received an M.Sc. in computer science from St. Petersburg State University, Russia, in 1991 and a B.S/M.Sc. combined in material science from St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Russia, in 1989. He has worked as research assistant professor of physics and visiting professor in the Chemistry Department, University of Utah; as visiting professor in the Physics Department, Ohio State University, Columbus; and as research associate in the Department of Chemistry and Material Science and Engineering, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Currently he is an adjunct professor of physics at the University of Utah. Dr. Burtman joined CEMI in 2007. His research interests in geophysics include mathematical physics, transport studies in disordered media, anisotropic induced polarization effects, effective medium theory, plasmonic structures, and metamaterials.
